What it is for
Key facts
The magnetic core feeds thread steadily and evenly without bounce, so you can sew nearly to the end of the bobbin.
Consistent tension means less waste and less downtime.
Built for multi-needle commercial machines, and they also work in single-needle cylinder arm machines.
They fit all Brother 6- and 10-needle models, all Baby Lock 6- and 10-needle models, and the Brother PRS100.
How to use it
- 1Check your machine’s bobbin size before ordering. Style L fits most commercial embroidery machines; Style M fits only machines built for it.
- 2Run the side type that works best in your machine with the least downtime. No one type is right for every machine.
- 3When you switch to magnetic core bobbins, remove the anti-backlash spring from the bobbin case.
- 4Re-check bobbin tension after changing bobbin type or brand. Sideless bobbins may need more tension than sided bobbins.
Before you buy
How it compares
| Type | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Paper-sided bobbin | Semi-rigid sides cut lint in the bobbin cavity and reduce friction and wear on the bobbin case | General commercial embroidery |
| Plastic-sided bobbin | Resists warping from oil or humidity; easy to see when thread runs low | Humid or heavily oiled shops |
| Sideless bobbin | Lasts longer and shows thread level through the case; may need more tension | Watching thread level, fewer changes |
| Magnetic core bobbin | Steady tension and feed nearly to the end; remove the anti-backlash spring | Less waste and downtime |
| Sharp point needle | Cuts cleanly through tight weaves | Twill, denim, canvas, caps, broadcloth |
| Ball point needle (SES / light ball) | Pushes fibers aside instead of cutting them | T-shirts, fleece, sweatshirts, fine knits |

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Style L and Style M bobbins?
Size. A Style L bobbin is about the size of a nickel, and a Style M (sometimes called a jumbo bobbin) is about the size of a quarter. The letters do not stand for large or medium, and M bobbins only fit machines built for them.
Do I need to change anything to run magnetic core bobbins?
Yes. Remove the anti-backlash spring from the bobbin case for best results.
Why use continuous filament polyester bobbin thread?
It makes less lint than spun thread, which keeps the bobbin area cleaner.
