Inktek LB023 Quick Flash White Plastisol Ink – Fast Flash First Down White for Screen Printing

Inktek

Inktek LB023 Quick Flash White is a low-bleed plastisol ink engineered for one specific job: getting a high-opacity white down fast and moving on. Formulated with rapid flash and cure properties, minimal after-flash tack, and a creamy heavy-bodied consistency, it keeps production moving on both manual and automatic presses. Use it as a first-down underbase on dark shirts, a highlight white on lighter garments, or a standalone spot color — it handles all three. Non-phthalate, low-cure at 280°F, and built for high-speed runs on cotton and cotton/poly blends.

Description

Flash. Move. Print. Repeat.

Every second you spend waiting for a white underbase to flash is a second you’re not printing. LB023 Quick Flash White is built to eliminate that wait. Its rapid-flash formulation gels quickly, clears the platen with minimal tack, and keeps your press moving at production speed — no ghosting, no smearing, no picking when the next color comes down. High-opacity coverage means you’re not compensating with extra passes. Low-cure at 280°F with a 155–165°F gel temp means it responds fast under the flash unit. Whether you’re running automatic at full speed or pushing a manual through a heavy dark-shirt program, LB023 is the underbase white that gets out of your way.

Why LB023 Quick Flash White?

Engineered for Speed

Most white underbase problems come down to flash time and after-flash tack. LB023’s rapid-flash chemistry gets to gel temperature fast at 155–165°F and leaves a minimal-tack surface after the flash unit passes. The next color comes down clean — no picking, no ghosting, no smear. That’s what keeps an automatic press running at full production speed without babysitting the flash.

Three-Role Versatility

LB023 earns its spot on the shelf because it does three jobs: first-down underbase on dark garments, highlight white accent on multi-color prints, and standalone spot white for single-color jobs. One ink that rotates through all three roles means fewer containers open, less inventory to manage, and no swapping inks between different job types.

Heavy Body, High Opacity

The creamy, heavy-bodied consistency delivers the ink deposit you need for full opacity on dark garments without excessive passes. More ink in fewer strokes means less screen wear, less squeegee pressure, and consistent deposit even on longer production runs where operator fatigue can cause uneven coverage.

Reliable Wet-on-Wet Performance

For jobs that don’t require a flash between colors, LB023 performs well wet-on-wet. The consistent, stable body doesn’t creep or spread under subsequent passes, and the low-bleed formulation holds on cotton and cotton/poly blends without dye strike-through compromising the white base.

Available Sizes

  • QQuart (32 oz) — Ideal for shops trying LB023 alongside their current underbase white before committing to larger volume
  • GGallon (128 oz) — Standard production size for shops running regular underbase and spot white work on cotton and blends
  • 55-Gallon Pail — High-volume automatic shops running heavy dark-shirt programs daily where underbase speed is a production constraint

Running LB023 on Press — The Full Workflow

First Down — Print

Print LB023 through 86–160 mesh as the first-down underbase. The heavy-bodied consistency provides full opacity in a single pass on most dark garments. For very dark shirts or pastel top colors, a double-hit (print, flash, print again) maximizes coverage.

Flash to Gel

Flash until the ink reaches 155–165°F surface gel temperature — this is faster than standard whites thanks to LB023’s rapid-flash formulation. The result is dry-to-touch with minimal tack. Don’t over-dwell; you want gel, not full cure, before the top colors print.

Print Top Colors

Print your top colors wet-on-flash over the gelled underbase. Minimal tack means the screen releases cleanly without pulling the underbase — no ghosting on the platen, no off-register smear as shirts index through. The bright white base gives top colors full vibrancy.

Full Cure at 280°F

Run through the conveyor dryer targeting 280°F internal ink temp for a minimum of 1 minute 30 seconds. Verify with a donut probe. Do a stretch test and wash test before shipping. Temperatures above 300°F increase dye migration risk on poly blends.

⚠ Gel Temp ≠ Cure Temp

Reaching gel temperature (155–165°F) is what you verify during the flash step — the ink is solidified to a dry-to-touch surface but not fully cured. Full cure requires 280°F internal ink temp for at least 1 minute 30 seconds in the dryer. Always verify full cure with a donut probe, then stretch test and wash test before shipping.

⚠ Keep Temps Below 300°F on Poly Blends

LB023 cures at 280°F — running the dryer above 300°F to speed throughput increases dye migration risk on polyester-blend garments. Set your conveyor to hit 280°F accurately and verify with a probe. Faster belt speed at a properly calibrated 280°F beats a hotter dryer every time.

Available Additives

LB023 is ready to print straight from the container. If adjustments are needed for specific jobs, the following additives are compatible: Curable Reducer (thin for finer mesh), Process Clear (extend for halftone work), Stretch Additive (increase flexibility for stretch fabrics), Fashion Base (reduce opacity for vintage or fashion-wash looks), and Finesse Base (improve flowability on high-speed automatics). Always add in small increments and test before full production.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes LB023 “quick flash” compared to a regular white underbase?

LB023 is specifically formulated with a gel system that reaches the 155–165°F gel temperature faster under a flash unit than standard white plastisols. Once gelled, it leaves a minimal-tack surface — which means the next screen can come down immediately without picking the underbase or leaving ghost impressions on the platen. On an automatic press, that means you can run tighter flash timing without sacrificing print quality, which directly translates to higher shirts-per-hour.

What’s the difference between gel temperature and cure temperature?

Gel temperature (155–165°F) is the point at which the ink solidifies to a dry-to-touch, printable surface during the flash step. It’s not fully cured — it’s just stable enough for the next screen to print on top without smearing. Full cure requires the entire ink film to reach 280°F internal temperature for at least 1 minute 30 seconds in the conveyor dryer. Confusing these two is one of the most common causes of wash-off failures — always verify full cure with a donut probe and wash test.

Can I run LB023 wet-on-wet without flashing?

Yes — LB023 performs well wet-on-wet for jobs where a flash between the underbase and top colors isn’t required. The stable, heavy-bodied consistency doesn’t spread or creep under subsequent passes. That said, on dark garments where you need maximum underbase opacity before top colors, a flash step will produce cleaner, more vibrant results than wet-on-wet. Test both approaches on your specific job and garment before committing to a production method.

How does LB023 compare to LB020 Bright White?

Both cure at 280°F on cotton and cotton/poly blends. The key difference is focus: LB020 Bright White prioritizes an ultra-soft hand feel with a built-in puff additive for optical brightness — it’s the retail-quality print choice. LB023 Quick Flash White prioritizes production speed — faster gel, minimal tack, and a heavy-bodied consistency optimized for high-volume underbase work on automatic presses. If your customer feels the shirt and comments on the softness, you want LB020. If you’re focused on getting 500 dark shirts through the press efficiently, you want LB023.

Is LB023 safe for polyester and poly-blend garments?

LB023 is formulated for cotton and cotton/poly blend garments and includes a low-bleed formulation for bleed resistance on those substrates. It is not a poly-specific blocker ink — for 100% polyester or highly dye-reactive synthetics, a dedicated dye-migration blocker underbase will produce more reliable results. Always test on the specific garment colorway before committing to production.

Do I need to add anything before printing?

No — LB023 is ready to print straight from the container. Stir thoroughly before use, especially if the ink has been sitting. If you need to modify for specific applications, compatible additives include Curable Reducer (thinning for finer mesh), Process Clear (extending for halftone), Stretch Additive (for stretch fabrics), Fashion Base, and Finesse Base. Always add in small increments and test before running production.
