Description

Blinding Brightness. Smart Packaging.

Solar White is formulated for shops that need an ultra-bright, dependable production white — and have enough volume to justify buying past the gallon. The 3-gallon pail hits the sweet spot: more ink per order than a gallon, lower shipping cost per pound than a 5-gallon, and a lighter container that’s easier to move around a busy press floor without straining. The ink itself delivers consistent high-opacity white coverage with excellent bleed resistance on 50/50 blends and a soft hand feel that holds up through wash after wash. Low-cure at 280°F, phthalate-compliant, and press-ready straight from the container across any mesh count in the lineup. Works as an underbase on dark garments, a hi-lite white in multi-color prints, or a standalone spot color.

🪣 Why a 3-Gallon Pail?

The 3-gallon format is 60% of the weight of a 5-gallon pail — easier to lift off a shelf, carry across the shop, and tip without spillage. It also ships at a lower freight cost per reorder than a 5-gallon, which adds up on a high-use production white. If you’re going through gallons regularly, the 3-gallon pail keeps costs tighter without requiring a full 5-gallon commitment.

Why Solar White?

Ultra-Bright Coverage

Solar White delivers a clean, vivid white that pops on both light and dark garments. The high-opacity formula covers the substrate fully in a single pass on most fabrics, with consistent brightness from the first shirt to the last in a production run — no color shift, no thinning out mid-job.

Low-Bleed on 50/50 Blends

The most commonly printed substrate in the market is a cotton/poly blend — and it’s also the most likely to show dye bleed under a standard white. Solar White’s low-bleed formulation is specifically validated for 50/50 blends and tricky blend fabrics, holding clean at the 280°F cure temp without the bleed risk that standard whites carry on those substrates.

Soft Hand & Retail-Quality Matte-Down

The smooth laydown and excellent fiber matte-down produce a clean, retail-quality print surface — no raised edges, no texture variation, no fuzzy fiber ends standing through the ink film. The soft hand feel stays soft through washing, making it suitable for fashion and retail apparel jobs where the feel of the print is part of the product.

Press-Ready Across Any Mesh Count

Solar White works well across mesh counts and squeegee types without needing adjustment. Run it at 86–110 for heavy underbase deposit, 160–230 for tighter graphic detail, or up to 305 for fine halftone and simulated process work. The consistent press-ready viscosity means no thinning in most cases — open and print.

Three Ways to Run Solar White

Underbase on Dark Garments

First-down on dark cotton and cotton/poly blend shirts. Gel at 155–165°F flash temp to dry-to-touch, then print top colors wet-on-flash. High opacity blocks the substrate for accurate, vibrant color results on top.

Hi-Lite White in Multi-Color Prints

Last-down highlight white in simulated process and multi-color prints. The bright, high-opacity formula adds clean white accents that pop against any background color without a second pass.

Standalone Spot Color

Solo spot white on any garment. Consistent opacity, reliable bleed resistance, and a clean finish make Solar White a dependable single-color option across the full substrate range.

Press Settings

Mesh

86–305 monofilament. Use 86–110 for heavy underbase deposits on dark garments. 160–230 for tighter graphic work. Up to 305 for halftone and simulated process. Solar White’s consistent viscosity works well across the full range without reformulation.

Gel Temp (Flash)

Flash until the ink surface reaches 155–165°F — dry to the touch, minimal tack. This is a gel, not a full cure. Don’t over-dwell; an over-gelled underbase reduces top-color adhesion and can lead to delamination after washing.

Full Cure

280°F internal ink temp for a minimum of 1 minute 30 seconds. Verify with a donut probe — surface guns are not accurate for cure verification. Stretch test and wash test before shipping any production order.

Thinning & Storage

Press-ready straight from the container. Stir thoroughly before assessing viscosity — plastisol bodies up in storage and may loosen significantly once stirred. Store at 65–90°F away from sunlight. Use within one year of manufacture.

⚠ Pre-Test on Problem Polyester Fabrics

Solar White holds well on 50/50 blends and many poly-blend fabrics, but dye chemistry varies by garment manufacturer and colorway. Highly reactive polyester dyes — especially in dark reds, royal blues, and bright athletic fabrics — may bleed at any temperature. Always pre-test the specific garment and colorway before committing to a production run. If you’re seeing bleed on test prints, switch to a dedicated dye blocker underbase.

⚠ Gel Temp Is Not Cure Temp

155–165°F is the flash gel point — when the ink is solid enough for the next screen to print on top. Full cure requires 280°F through the entire ink film for at least 90 seconds. A print that passes a quick touch test after the flash unit has not been fully cured. Always verify full cure with a donut probe and wash test before shipping.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is Solar White only available in a 3-gallon pail?

The 3-gallon pail format is deliberately designed for production volume shops. It’s 60% of the weight of a 5-gallon pail — meaningfully easier to lift, carry, and tip on a press floor — while still delivering enough ink for high-volume reorder efficiency. The 3-gallon format also ships at a lower freight cost per reorder than a 5-gallon pail, which makes a real difference when you’re buying this ink regularly. If you only need a small amount to try, contact us about our white ink sample options.

How well does Solar White perform on 50/50 blends?

The low-bleed formula is specifically validated for 50/50 cotton/poly blends and similar tricky fabrics. At the 280°F cure temp, most 50/50 blend dyes remain below their activation threshold, and the non-migrating pigment system holds the white clean. That said, blend garment dye chemistry varies — always pre-test the specific garment and colorway, especially on dark colors, before committing to a production run.

What’s the difference between the gel temperature and the full cure temperature?

The gel temperature (155–165°F) is what you achieve during the flash step — the ink solidifies to a dry-to-touch surface but is not yet fully cured. This is just stable enough for the next color to print on top without smearing. Full cure requires 280°F internal ink temp for at least 1 minute 30 seconds in the conveyor dryer. Printing on a gelled-but-not-cured underbase and then running through the dryer cures everything together — that’s the standard workflow. Never mistake a passed flash for a passed cure.

How does Solar White compare to LB000 Poly White?

Both are low-bleed whites formulated for cotton and poly blends. The key differences: LB000 Poly White has a flexible cure range down to 250°F and is available in quart, gallon, and 5-gallon sizes. Solar White cures at 280°F and is available exclusively in the 3-gallon pail — which makes it the better choice for volume buyers who want a lighter container with a lower per-reorder shipping cost than a 5-gallon. If you need the flexibility of multiple size options or the lower cure range, LB000 is the better fit.

Can I run Solar White on a manual press or is it only for automatics?

Solar White is compatible with both manual and automatic presses. The press-ready viscosity and consistent body don’t require a high-speed automatic to perform well. On a manual, use moderate-to-firm squeegee pressure for full deposit coverage on dark garments, and flash between the underbase and top colors as you would normally.

How do I confirm the ink is fully cured?

Use a donut probe or thermocouple to verify 280°F internal ink temp for at least 1 minute 30 seconds — not a surface infrared gun, which reads 60–80°F above actual ink temp. After curing, stretch test the print hard in both directions: properly cured plastisol stretches without cracking or delaminating. Run wash tests (3–5 hot cycles) before shipping any customer orders.
