Matsui Fixer WF-N | Eco-Friendly Wash Fastness Additive for Water-Based Screen Printing Ink

Matsui

Matsui Fixer WF-N — Fixer WF-N is an acrylic crosslinker that bonds to the ink’s acrylic binder during heat curing, creating a more durable, more permanent attachment between ink and fabric fiber. It is the standard fixer for all Matsui acrylic water-based inks (Alpha, Infinity, all white inks). Adding Fixer WF-N significantly improves wash fastness and can also lower the required cure temperature from 320°F (160°C) to 300°F (150°C).

🎯 Problem it solves: Poor wash durability — prints fading, cracking, or washing out after laundering.

Description

Matsui Fixer WF-N

Fixer WF-N is an acrylic crosslinker that bonds to the ink’s acrylic binder during heat curing, creating a more durable, more permanent attachment between ink and fabric fiber. It is the standard fixer for all Matsui acrylic water-based inks (Alpha, Infinity, all white inks). Adding Fixer WF-N significantly improves wash fastness and can also lower the required cure temperature from 320°F (160°C) to 300°F (150°C).

What It Does

🧺
Improves Wash Fastness
Crosslinks acrylic polymer chains during curing — creating stronger bonds between ink and fabric. Prints withstand 50+ wash cycles without significant fading or cracking.
🌡️
Lowers Cure Temperature
Adding Fixer WF-N allows the ink to crosslink more efficiently — dropping the required cure temperature from 320°F to 300°F (150°C). Useful for heat-sensitive fabrics.
💪
Strengthens Ink Film
The crosslinked binder creates a more elastic, more durable ink film — better cracking resistance on stretch fabrics and improved adhesion on synthetic blends.

When to Use This Additive

For any job where wash durability matters — which is essentially every production job. Use it proactively whenever printing on garments that will be laundered. Also add when printing on challenging substrates (polyester blends) where adhesion is more difficult to achieve.

💊 Dosage
1–5% by weight of total ink
✅ Compatible Inks
All Matsui acrylic water-based inks. Also included as a component in Quick Additive. ⚠️ Do NOT use Fixer WF-N with Matsui Soft-Tex 350 or any polyurethane (PU) binder inks — use Fixer V instead.
⚠️ Limits
Do not exceed 5%. Keep total additives under 15%. Over-fixing can cause the ink to become too stiff.

The Complete Matsui Additive Lineup — All 13

Every water-based printing problem has an additive that fixes it. Here is the full lineup with dosages and what each solves:

AdditiveDosageWhat It Solves
Quick Additive6–9%All-in-one: open time + wash fastness + soft hand. Best starting point for most jobs.
Retarder MG1–5%Prevents ink drying in screen. Extends open time on press.
Fixer WF-N ← This Product1–5%Improves wash fastness. Lowers cure temp to 300°F (150°C). Most common fixer.
Softener MG1–4%Improves fabric penetration. Softer hand feel and better adhesion.
RV Additive1–3%Reduces viscosity without weakening resin. Better flow and fabric penetration.
Thickener B0.25–1%Increases viscosity. Controls halftone dot spread. Fine-detail work.
Fixer L1–3%Lowers cure temp to 250°F. For electric dryers or heat-sensitive fabrics.
Fixer V2–3%⚠️ For PU binder inks ONLY (Soft-Tex 350 series). NOT interchangeable with Fixer WF-N.
Retarder SP-1 / FlowVariesImproves flow of thick inks without reducing viscosity. For high-viscosity bases.
Emacol R-600-EVariesLong-bodied thickener for halftone dot retention. Alternative to Thickener B.
Puff Foaming Base HTVariesCreates 3D puff effect when flash-heated. Mix with any water-based ink.
Phantom ClearStandaloneDisappears when dry. Reappears when wet (sweat). For activewear specialty prints.
Discharge Activator3–8%⚠️ REQUIRED for discharge mode. Enables chemistry on dark 100% cotton. 12-hr pot life.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is Fixer WF-N different from Fixer L and Fixer V?
Fixer WF-N is the standard acrylic crosslinker for all Matsui acrylic inks — requires heat to activate (cures at 300–320°F). Fixer L is an air-dry crosslinker that works at lower temperatures (250°F+) and also crosslinks at room temperature over time. Fixer V is for polyurethane (PU) binder inks like Soft-Tex 350 ONLY — it is not compatible with acrylic inks.
Does Fixer WF-N actually lower the cure temperature?
Yes — adding 1–5% Fixer WF-N allows the ink to crosslink at approximately 300°F (150°C) instead of the standard 320°F (160°C). This is useful for garments with heat-sensitive trims or decorations.
Can I use Fixer WF-N with discharge ink?
Yes — add Fixer WF-N before adding Discharge Activator. It improves wash fastness in the cured discharge print. Mix thoroughly: Fixer WF-N first, then activator when ready to print.
Do I need Fixer WF-N if I use Quick Additive?
Quick Additive already contains Fixer WF-N as one of its three components. For most jobs, the fixer in Quick Additive is sufficient. For maximum wash fastness on demanding applications, add individual Fixer WF-N on top of your Quick Additive dose — keeping total additives under 15%.
