Why Proper Tension Matters
Screen tension isn’t a detail — it’s the foundation every other setting sits on. Get it even and adequate and everything downstream gets easier; let it drift and you fight registration, deposit, and detail all day.
Registration & Consistency
Adequate, even tension keeps the mesh flat and dimensionally stable so each color lands in register. Low tension lets the mesh shift and stretch under the squeegee — the root cause of blurry, misaligned multi-color prints.
Clean Ink Transfer
Proper tension lets the screen snap off the shirt cleanly and shear the ink crisply in a single stroke — sharper edges, even coverage, and better detail. Low tension needs more off-contact and squeegee pressure, which smears detail and adds dot gain.

How To Use It
1. Calibrate / Zero
Wipe the contact area clean and zero the meter on a flat glass plate (glass-calibration method). Recheck calibration periodically for accurate readings.
2. Place on the Mesh
Set the meter flat on the mesh — not touching the frame — let it settle, and read the tension in Newtons off the dial. Don’t force it; it reads the mesh’s own deflection.
3. Check for Evenness
Read the center and near each corner, in both mesh directions. Even readings across the screen matter as much as the number — uneven tension warps registration.
4. Match & Log
Record each screen’s tension and group screens of equal tension for a job. Consistent tension screen-to-screen gives the tightest multi-color registration.
