Description

Saati Duralife 70 Duro — Medium Urethane Blade for Screen Printing

70 durometer is the most widely used squeegee blade hardness in screen printing for one reason: it works for everything. Standard plastisol, water-based, discharge, specialty inks — standard mesh counts from 110 to 200 — flat garments, cotton tees, 50/50 blends — 70 duro handles all of it without needing to be the perfect blade for any one specific job. It is the baseline blade that every shop keeps stocked, and the first recommendation for any printer who is unsure what durometer to use.

Key Features

🔬
Saati Duralife Urethane
Premium urethane formulation — not rubber. Urethane maintains consistent durometer and edge sharpness longer, resists solvent-based cleaners, plastisol oils, and water-based ink chemistry without swelling or softening.
📏
70 Shore A Durometer
Measured to 70 on the Shore A hardness scale. Medium — balanced versatility across inks and mesh.
✂️
Sold Per Inch — Cut from Full 144″ Roll
Order exactly the length you need from a full 144″ roll. Blade stock cuts cleanly with a sharp utility knife or guillotine cutter. Fits any standard squeegee handle that accepts replacement blade stock.
🧪
Chemical Resistant
Urethane resists swelling and softening from plastisol solvents, water-based ink chemistry, discharge activators, and screen cleaning chemicals including mineral spirits and ink degradants.
🔪
Sharpenable Edge
Saati Duralife urethane sharpens cleanly on standard squeegee sharpeners. A consistent, sharp edge restores print quality and extends blade life significantly beyond the first sign of edge wear.
🏭
Professional Grade
The same blade material used in high-volume production shops — engineered for consistent performance across hundreds of thousands of prints when properly maintained.

When to Use a 70 Durometer Blade

👕
General Garment Printing
Standard plastisol spot color printing on flat cotton and cotton-poly garments — the primary application for 70 duro. Works across all ink brands and most mesh counts in the 110–200 range.
💧
Water-Based & Discharge Inks
Water-based and discharge inks are thinner than plastisol — 70 duro provides the right balance of flex and rigidity for consistent deposit without over-driving the ink through the mesh.
🔤
Spot Color & Text
Bold spot color artwork, text, logos, and solid fills — work that doesn’t require the fine edge of an 80 or the heavy deposit of a 60. 70 duro is the correct blade for this majority of commercial print work.
🏁
General Automation (Manual & Auto Press)
Compatible with manual squeegee printing and standard automatic press heads. The medium hardness provides consistent print-to-print deposit without over-stressing auto press mechanisms.
⚠️ When NOT to use 70 duro: Halftone-heavy process printing at high mesh (where 80 duro gives tighter dot reproduction) or heavy-deposit specialty inks at low mesh (where 60 or 60/90/60 triple delivers more ink).

See It in Action: Understanding Squeegee Durometer

📐 Understanding Squeegee Durometer

Durometer is the Shore A hardness rating of the squeegee blade — a standardized measurement of how stiff or flexible the blade material is. It directly determines how much ink passes through the mesh and the sharpness of the printed edge.

↑ Softer (60)
More flexible → more pressure on mesh → more ink deposit → heavier prints
⚖️ Medium (70)
Balanced → versatile across inks, mesh counts, and substrates → the shop standard
↓ Harder (80)
More rigid → less flex → less ink deposit → sharper edges → fine detail

🔬 Why Urethane? Saati Duralife vs. Standard Rubber

Saati Duralife Urethane
  • Resistant to plastisol, water-based, and discharge inks
  • Resistant to solvents and screen cleaning chemicals
  • Maintains consistent durometer across the blade lifespan
  • Holds a sharper edge longer between sharpenings
  • Lower abrasion wear on emulsion stencils
Standard Rubber Blades
  • Can swell or soften when exposed to solvents
  • Durometer drifts over time as rubber degrades
  • Loses edge sharpness faster
  • Lower cost upfront, but higher replacement frequency

🔧 Squeegee Blade Care & Sharpening

  • Clean blades immediately after printing — dried ink hardens on urethane and requires more aggressive cleaning, which accelerates edge wear.
  • Store blades edge-up or hanging — never lay a squeegee flat with blade down. The edge deforms under the handle weight over time.
  • Sharpen regularly — a dull blade requires more pressure to shear ink through the mesh, which increases mesh wear, stencil wear, and wrist fatigue. Sharpen when you notice ink deposit becoming uneven or edges ragged.
  • Inspect for nicks and flat spots — a nicked blade leaves streaks and uneven ink deposit. Sharpen past the nick or replace the blade section.
  • Use a squeegee sharpener or lap grinder — hand sharpening on sandpaper creates uneven bevels. A dedicated sharpener produces a consistent edge across the full blade length.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is 70 durometer the most common squeegee blade?
70 duro sits in the middle of the practical printing range — firm enough to shear ink cleanly off the mesh surface, flexible enough to conform to fabric texture, and balanced enough to work across the widest range of ink types and mesh counts without specializing. Shops that stock only one blade stock 70.
Can I use 70 duro for water-based inks?
Yes — 70 duro works well with water-based, discharge, and plastisol inks. For water-based printing specifically, many printers use 70–75 duro. The Saati Duralife urethane formulation resists water-based ink chemistry and cleans up easily.
What is the difference between 70 duro blade-only and the Nortech 70 duro complete squeegee?
The blade-only product is sold per inch from a full 144″ roll and designed for cutting to size and inserting into your existing squeegee handles. The Nortech Wood Handle Squeegee comes with the blade already mounted in a finished wood handle — ready to print immediately. If you already have handles, buy blade stock. If you need a complete ready-to-use squeegee, buy the Nortech complete unit.
How do I cut Saati Duralife blade stock to length?
Use a sharp utility knife with a straightedge guide, a guillotine-style paper/blade cutter, or a circular saw for high-volume cutting. Urethane cuts cleanly with a sharp blade. Make sure your cut is perfectly square to the blade length for an even printing edge across the full width.
What handle styles are compatible with Saati Duralife blades?
Saati Duralife blades fit any standard squeegee handle that accepts replacement blade stock — including Nortech wood handles, aluminum handles, and auto press squeegee heads. Confirm the blade slot width matches your handle spec before ordering.
