Technical Specifications – TW 11000 Ink Series
The TW 11000 Ink Series is a versatile, one-component solvent-based ink system designed to meet the demands of various printing applications. It exhibits exceptional adhesion properties across a wide range of substrates, making it suitable for a multitude of materials, including nylon jackets, flags, Tyvek®, plastic sheeting, leather, wood, metals, and treated polyethylene and polypropylene plastic containers.
Printing Parameters:
- Screen Mesh: Recommended mesh range from 110 to 305 (43 to 120 cm) monofilament polyester.
- Stencils: Use solvent-proof or water-soluble emulsion stencils exclusively, accompanied by a water-soluble blockout.
- Squeegee Type: Employ a sharp 65 to 75 single durometer blade for optimal results.
Ink Additives and Thinning:
The TW 11000 Ink Series is supplied press-ready for most applications and printing equipment. However, for specific adjustments and improvements, consider the following additives:
- Viscosity Adjustment: TW-1073 Thinner or 11017 thinner can be added in a range of 5-10% by weight.
- Fine Detail Printing or High-Temperature Conditions: Add TW-1091 in a similar percentage. Avoid over-reduction, as it may impact drying speed and adhesion.
- Enhanced Chemical Resistance and Adhesion: Utilize TW-2919 Adhesion Promoter / Catalyst.
Ink Yield and Coverage:
The ink’s yield varies based on multiple factors, including fabric selection, squeegee hardness, substrate absorption, and press mechanics. Generally, expect a yield of 1,400 to 2,000 square feet per gallon (33 to 47 square meters per liter).
- Air Drying: The 11000 Series air dries within 10 to 20 minutes at room temperature.
- Forced Drying: Achieve rapid drying in seconds at 90° to 150°F (32° to 66°C). Avoid excessive temperatures to prevent material blocking after printing.
- Adhesion Testing: Perform adhesion tests on substrates before production. The 11000 Series is specifically formulated to adhere to most polyethylene and polypropylene substrates with surface tension levels of 38 dyne/cm or higher.
- Color Availability: The 11000 Ink Series offers a wide range of options, including single pigment mixing colors, standard colors, and the Advanced Color Gamut™ four-color process inks.
- Ink Wash Up: For wash-up and reclamation, use press wash and degradents specifically developed for solvent-based inks.
- Storage: Store at room temperature below 100°F (38°C) and avoid exposure to open flames and excessive heat.
- Packaging: Available in gallons
- Safety and Handling: Always refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet before use.
- Estimated Durability and Light-Fastness: While outdoor durability may vary, accelerated weathering tests indicate that the 11000 Series Ink Line offers an exterior life of up to two years on most substrates. However, Reflex and Ultra Blue have an exterior life of up to one year. Real-world results may vary based on production conditions and end-product use.
