Description
Fire-Bright Red That Commands Attention at Distance
Poppy Red #172 is the warmest, most vivid red in the FDC 4200 lineup — an energized fire-red with just enough orange to amplify its urgency and impact. The red of fire department graphics, Target-brand clarity, and holiday retail windows that need to stop foot traffic cold.
Vivid Fire-Red with Orange Warmth
Color #172 is a bright, saturated red with warm orange undertones — more vivid and energized than a cool crimson, more urgent than a dark burgundy. The visual urgency that emergency signage demands and retail sale graphics need to trigger an immediate stop response.
Maximum-Impact Ultra-High Gloss
The 4200 Series topcoat amplifies Poppy Red’s natural vibrancy into a high-energy, light-catching finish that works in full sun on emergency vehicle graphics and under retail lighting on sale display signage.
Permanent Bond for High-Traffic Environments
The clear acrylic adhesive cures to 2.5 lbs/in after 24 hours — holding fire station identification through seasons of weather, retail promotional graphics through the high-traffic rush of holiday shopping weeks.
5-Year Outdoor Performance
Rated up to 5 years outdoors — the durability that permanent emergency service identification, restaurant brand signage, and commercial storefront graphics demand.

How to Apply — Step by Step
Set cutter force to 40–60g and run a test cut before production. Use a fresh blade for cleanest results.
Weed excess vinyl with a weeding hook. FDC 4200’s cast-like flexibility handles fine detail without tearing neighboring cuts.
Apply your 24″ application tape over the weeded design. Squeegee firmly from center out to bond tape to the vinyl face.
Clean with 70% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Allow to dry completely. Surface must be at or above 40°F.
Position the design, squeegee from center outward to eliminate air pockets, then peel transfer tape at a low angle. Allow 24 hours to cure.
You’ll Also Need: Application Tape
A quality 24″ application tape ensures your Poppy Red graphics transfer cleanly and position precisely.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions — FDC 4200 Poppy Red Sign Vinyl
How does Poppy Red #172 differ from Wild Cardinal Red #125 in the FDC 4200 line?
Poppy Red #172 is warmer and more orange-leaning — the classic fire-bright red with urgency and energy, ideal for emergency graphics, food brands, and retail sale signage. Wild Cardinal Red #125 is a slightly deeper, truer red with less orange warmth — better for sports team graphics and signage where red needs to feel precise rather than urgent.
Is Poppy Red the right color for fire department and emergency service graphics?
Poppy Red’s warm, vivid fire-red is well-suited for fire station identification and fire department vehicle lettering. For official apparatus graphics on fire trucks subject to apparatus color standards, always verify against your department’s approved specifications before committing to production.
Does Poppy Red work well for retail sale window graphics?
Poppy Red is one of the most effective colors for retail sale signage — its vivid warmth triggers the urgency response that drives customers through a store entrance. On glass storefronts with paper or clear film transfer tape, it creates high-impact sale window graphics visible from across a parking lot.
What colors pair with Poppy Red for holiday retail displays?
Poppy Red pairs classically with Crystal White #102 for Christmas and holiday retail graphics. Add Lime Green #257 for a bright holiday palette, or pair with gold/Sunflower #025 for a warm, festive combination.
How does Poppy Red hold up on food service exterior signage?
FDC 4200 is rated up to 5 years outdoors. Thorough IPA prep is critical on food service surfaces where grease and cooking oils can contaminate the substrate. Apply above 40°F and allow 24 hours cure before pressure washing.
Can Poppy Red be used for vehicle lettering?
Yes — FDC 4200 works well for vehicle lettering and fleet graphics on flat and simply curved surfaces. Clean thoroughly with IPA to remove wax and road grime. Apply above 40°F. Not a conformable cast vinyl — not suitable for compound curves.
Will Poppy Red fade or shift color outdoors over time?
Red pigments can gradually soften toward orange under sustained direct UV exposure over multiple years. A UV-protective overlaminate extends color life significantly for south-facing and high-UV permanent signage.
