FDC 4200 Gloss Clear Sign Vinyl 24″ — Lumina® 4200-000
FDC Films
FDC Lumina® 4200 Gloss Clear (Color #000) is a premium 24″ intermediate-grade ultra-high gloss transparent calendered PVC vinyl film that opens a category of application possibilities unavailable with any opaque color. Unlike every other vinyl in the FDC 4200 lineup, Gloss Clear is fully transparent — the film, the adhesive, and the finished application are all designed to disappear on installation, leaving only a smooth, high-gloss permanent bond between the surface and the visual layer beneath it. At 2.8 mil with a permanent clear acrylic adhesive, it excels as a wet-look surface overlay, a printed vinyl protector, a no-show window graphic base, and a laminate-alternative clear coat for sign and display work. Rated up to 5 years outdoors.
Price range: $6.00 through $221.23
Description
Fully Transparent Gloss Clear — The Vinyl That Disappears on Purpose
Gloss Clear #000 is the most versatile vinyl in the FDC 4200 lineup precisely because it has no color to manage. The film disappears on application, leaving a smooth gloss surface bond that protects, seals, and finishes the work beneath it — or becomes a no-show graphic carrier that lets the substrate read through entirely.
Fully Transparent High-Gloss Film
Gloss Clear #000 is a completely transparent vinyl — the film, adhesive, and finished application are all designed to disappear, leaving only the glossy surface quality and permanent bond. No color, no opacity, no visual interference.
Wet-Look Surface Overlay Finish
Applied over painted signs, printed panels, and architectural surfaces, Gloss Clear creates a high-gloss, wet-look finish that dramatically changes the visual quality of the surface beneath. Flat-painted sign panels become glossy.
Permanent Clear Protective Bond
The permanent clear acrylic adhesive cures to 2.5 lbs/in after 24 hours, creating a durable, weatherproof transparent seal that protects printed decals from UV, moisture, and abrasion.
5-Year Outdoor Transparent Performance
Rated up to 5 years outdoors. The clear film maintains its transparency without yellowing, hazing, or losing gloss character across multiple outdoor seasons.

How to Apply — Step by Step
Set cutter force to 40–60g. Use a fresh blade — the transparent film makes blade drag and incomplete cuts visible in a way that opaque colors hide.
Weed clear vinyl under very bright task lighting or a light table. Cut lines are visible as slight texture differences in the film rather than color breaks. Work slowly.
Clear 24″ film tape ONLY — paper tape blocks visual confirmation of position during application. Squeegee tape firmly from center out.
Two-pass IPA prep mandatory — any contamination beneath clear vinyl is permanently visible. Allow to dry completely between passes.
Position carefully using clear tape see-through alignment. Squeegee very slowly from center outward. Air bubbles in clear vinyl are immediately visible. Allow 24 hours to cure.
You’ll Also Need: Application Tape
Transparent vinyl requires clear 24″ film tape — paper tape blocks the see-through view essential for positioning on glass and smooth surfaces.
Where Gloss Clear Works Best
Compatible Surfaces & Application Notes
Gloss Clear works on all surfaces that accept standard vinyl adhesive. Surface cleanliness is critical — all contamination is visible through the transparent film. Works on glass, painted metal, aluminum composite, acrylic, painted wood, and rigid sign substrates.
Pro Application Tips
- Clear film tape ONLY — paper tape prevents visual alignment on transparent vinyl
- Two-pass IPA surface prep mandatory — any contamination under clear film is permanently visible
- Weed under a light table or very bright task lighting — cut lines are hard to see in clear film
- Air bubbles show dramatically in clear vinyl — squeegee slowly from center outward
- Work in the cleanest available environment — dust settling on adhesive is a permanent visible defect

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions — FDC 4200 Gloss Clear
What is FDC 4200 Gloss Clear used for?
Gloss Clear #000 is a transparent vinyl used for surface overlay and protection applications. Primary uses: converting flat or matte surfaces to high-gloss finish, protecting printed graphics from UV and abrasion, creating no-show ghost window graphics, and sealing double-sided window graphic back faces against interior cleaning products.
Can Gloss Clear protect outdoor printed decals?
Yes — Gloss Clear works as a laminate alternative for sealing and protecting printed vinyl decals from UV, moisture, and surface abrasion. Apply over the printed face after inks have fully cured and outgassed. It extends print life on outdoor applications significantly.
What application tape should I use with Gloss Clear?
Clear 24″ film tape only. Paper tape is completely wrong for transparent vinyl — it blocks your view during transfer, making visual alignment impossible and preventing you from catching positioning errors before the vinyl is committed to the surface.
Why is surface preparation so critical for Gloss Clear?
Because the vinyl is fully transparent, any contamination beneath it — dust, fingerprints, moisture, residue — becomes permanently sealed in and visible. Two-pass IPA prep with complete drying between passes is mandatory.
How does Gloss Clear create a wet-look finish on sign panels?
When applied over flat or matte painted surfaces, the high-gloss topcoat and smooth adhesive interface creates a dramatic gloss transformation of the surface beneath. A matte-painted MDO sign board takes on the visual quality of a high-gloss finished surface.
Will Gloss Clear yellow or haze outdoors over time?
FDC 4200 Gloss Clear includes UV stabilizers to prevent yellowing and hazing under outdoor exposure. It is rated for up to 5 years of outdoor use while maintaining its clear, gloss character.
Can Gloss Clear be used on vehicle windows for no-show graphics?
Yes — when applied to glass with perfect surface prep and zero air bubbles, Gloss Clear creates subtle visible-at-an-angle ghost graphics using the gloss differential between the film and the surrounding glass.
