Description

Kimodesk Laser Film for Screen Printing

Kimodesk Laser Film is a high-performance laser printer transparency engineered for screen printers who want a simple, camera-free method for producing crisp film positives. The premium polyester film delivers sharp, opaque toner images that expose cleanly and consistently on your emulsion – so you burn tighter stencils in less time. Print, place, expose. That is the whole workflow.

3mil Polyester Base
A durable, heat-resistant polyester film that feeds and handles smoothly and stands up to long print runs.
Dense, Opaque Toner Adhesion
A coated surface that grabs toner for dark, opaque images – the key to a clean, fully blocked exposure.
Dimensional Stability
Handles laser-printer fuser heat without warping or distortion, so your registration stays accurate.
Anti-Static, Double-Sided Coating
Printable on both sides with an anti-static surface that reduces static buildup for cleaner, more reliable prints.

Why Screen Printers Use Laser Film

If you have a laser printer, you already have a film-positive system. Kimodesk makes it work:

Camera-free film output
Skip the process camera and darkroom entirely – your laser printer is your film output device.
No processors, no chemicals
Toner is dry the instant it prints. No wet processing, no ink cartridges, no drying racks.
Fast setup, tight registration
Print, position, and expose in minutes with stable, repeatable results run after run.
Sharp detail & halftones
Holds fine lines, small type, and halftone dots for detailed one- and multi-color separations.

What It Is Used For

Screen printing film positives
One-color and multi-color separations
Photonegatives for emulsion exposure
Shops eliminating camera-based film systems
Fast in-house film output for laser-equipped shops

How to Make Film Positives with Kimodesk

1Design your artwork and set your printer to its highest quality and darkest/densest setting for maximum toner coverage.
2Load a sheet of Kimodesk Laser Film into your laser printer’s tray and snug the guides so it feeds straight.
3Print your positive, then let the film sit a moment so the toner is fully set and smudge-free.
4Place the film on your coated, dry screen and set up your exposure unit for your emulsion.
5Expose – the toner areas block the light, creating your stencil – then wash out, dry, and print.
6Need denser blacks? Use a film-optimized RIP or print two passes; the double-sided coating lets you print either side.
Reminder: Kimodesk Laser Film is for laser printers only. Running it through an inkjet will not produce a usable positive.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is laser film used for in screen printing?
Laser film is a clear transparency you print your artwork onto with a laser printer to create a film positive. You lay that positive on your coated screen and expose it – the toner blocks the light and forms your stencil. It replaces camera- and darkroom-based film systems.
Can I use Kimodesk Laser Film in an inkjet printer?
No. Kimodesk is engineered for laser printers only. Inkjet ink will not adhere or dry properly on it. If you print with an Epson or other inkjet, you want a waterproof inkjet film instead.
How do I get dark, opaque positives?
Set your laser printer to its highest quality and darkest/densest setting. For extra opacity, print two passes or use a film-optimized RIP. Denser toner means a cleaner, fully blocked exposure and sharper stencils.
Can I print on both sides of the film?
Yes. Kimodesk has a double-sided printable coating, so you can print on either side – handy for emulsion-side-down registration and flexible workflows.
Will the laser printer’s heat warp the film?
No. The 3mil polyester base is dimensionally stable and heat-resistant, so it feeds through the fuser without warping or distorting – keeping your registration accurate.
What sizes does it come in?
8.5″ x 11″, 8.5″ x 14″, 11″ x 17″, and 13″ x 19″ – choose the size that matches your printer and your largest screen.
How is laser film different from inkjet film?
Laser film uses dry toner that is set the instant it prints – no ink, no cartridges, no wet processing. Inkjet film uses waterproof ink and can hold very dense blacks, but needs an inkjet printer and dry time. Many shops choose laser film for speed and simplicity.
Do I need a special printer?
Any standard laser printer works. Just make sure it can handle the film size you choose and that you print on the correct settings for density.
Still have a question?
We burn screens every day and are happy to help you get clean, dense film positives.
