FDC 4200 Matte Yellow Sign Vinyl 24″ — Lumina® 4200-080
FDC Films
FDC Lumina® 4200 Matte Yellow (Color #080) is a premium 24″ intermediate-grade non-gloss calendered PVC sign vinyl with a flat, anti-glare matte yellow finish that makes it the practical, safety-oriented alternative to gloss yellow in environments where surface reflection creates visibility problems. At 2.8 mil with a permanent acrylic adhesive, Matte Yellow cuts cleanly, weeds efficiently, and bonds firmly — delivering the warm yellow safety tone in a non-reflective flat finish that warehouse aisle marking, OSHA caution signage, construction zone identification, school zone boundary graphics, and industrial safety labeling choose when gloss yellow creates reading-angle glare that defeats the purpose of the safety graphic. Rated up to 5 years outdoors.
Price range: $6.00 through $221.23
Description
The Safety Yellow That Eliminates Glare — Flat Finish Where It Matters
Matte Yellow #080 solves a specific, practical problem: high-gloss yellow in overhead-lit industrial environments creates directional glare that makes safety graphics harder to read from certain angles — the exact opposite of what a safety sign should do. The matte finish eliminates that glare, keeping warm caution-yellow visible, consistent, and legible from every viewing angle.
Warm Caution Yellow, Zero Glare
Color #080 delivers the same warm, saturated safety yellow tone in a flat matte finish that eliminates the directional glare that compromises gloss yellow legibility under industrial overhead lighting.
Matte Finish for Consistent Visibility
In warehouse, manufacturing, and construction environments, Matte Yellow maintains consistent visibility from every viewing angle. The flat finish diffuses light rather than reflecting it.
Permanent Adhesive for Industrial Environments
The clear permanent acrylic adhesive cures to 2.5 lbs/in after 24 hours — holding warehouse aisle marking graphics, construction zone identification panels, and industrial safety labels through the daily demands of an active production environment.
5-Year Outdoor Durability
Rated up to 5 years outdoors. The matte finish is UV-stabilized and holds its flat, non-reflective character without developing gloss creep outdoors.

How to Apply — Step by Step
Set cutter force to 40–60g and run a test cut. Use a fresh blade for cleanest results.
Weed under bright lighting. Matte Yellow has moderate liner contrast. Work carefully on fine text in safety labels.
PC-24 paper tape ONLY — do not use clear film tape on matte vinyl. Squeegee firmly from center out.
Clean with 70% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Allow to dry completely. Surface must be at or above 40°F.
Use felt-edge squeegee — never hard plastic. Squeegee from center outward. Peel transfer tape at a low angle. Allow 24 hours to cure.
You’ll Also Need: Application Tape
Matte vinyl requires PC-24 paper tape only. Clear film tape leaves permanent adhesive marks on matte surfaces.
Where Matte Yellow Works Best
Compatible Surfaces & Application Notes
Matte Yellow reads consistently on black, dark gray, and dark green substrates where caution yellow provides maximum contrast. Works on all standard sign vinyl substrates including painted metal, aluminum, ABS plastic, and rigid sign panels.
Pro Application Tips
- Felt-edge squeegee mandatory — hard plastic creates burnish marks on matte yellow that destroy the uniform flat finish
- Paper tape only — clear film tape adhesive marks show clearly on matte yellow and are non-removable
- Two-pass IPA prep on industrial and warehouse surfaces with oil, grease, and manufacturing contamination
- Fresh blade essential — matte vinyl shows blade drag at certain viewing angles on safety label text
- Matte Yellow reads more consistently than gloss yellow under industrial overhead lighting

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions — FDC 4200 Matte Yellow
What is the practical difference between Matte Yellow #080 and Sunflower #025?
Same warm yellow color family — completely different finish. Sunflower #025 is ultra-high gloss, used for harvest brand identity, honey brand signage, and school bus lettering where gloss adds premium quality. Matte Yellow #080 is flat non-reflective, used for safety caution signage and warehouse aisle marking where gloss creates reading-angle glare that compromises legibility.
Why does the matte finish matter for safety and warehouse signage?
In industrial environments with overhead fluorescent or LED lighting, gloss surfaces create specular reflection that makes signs difficult or impossible to read from certain angles. Matte Yellow diffuses that light instead of reflecting it, maintaining consistent legibility from every viewing angle regardless of lighting conditions.
Is FDC 4200 Matte Yellow a certified OSHA or ANSI safety material?
No — FDC 4200 Matte Yellow is a general-purpose flat matte vinyl appropriate for many safety caution applications, but it is not a certified retroreflective material meeting ANSI/ISEA 107 or MUTCD retroreflectivity standards. For regulated traffic control devices, use purpose-certified retroreflective safety vinyl.
Can I use a regular squeegee on Matte Yellow?
No — hard plastic squeegees permanently alter the matte finish, creating burnish marks that are irreversible on a flat yellow surface. A felt-edge or fabric-wrapped squeegee is mandatory for all matte vinyl applications.
How does Matte Yellow perform on warehouse floor-adjacent surfaces?
FDC 4200 is designed for vertical sign surfaces, not floor applications. For warehouse floor marking, use purpose-formulated floor marking tape. FDC 4200 Matte Yellow on floor-adjacent vertical surfaces — rack uprights, wall panels, equipment guards — performs well with thorough IPA prep.
What application tape should I use with Matte Yellow?
PC-24 paper tape only. Clear film tape’s finger-tack adhesive leaves permanent adhesive marks on matte yellow surfaces that cannot be removed. This is non-negotiable for safety and compliance signage.
How does Matte Yellow compare to Lime Green #257 for safety applications?
Matte Yellow #080 is the traditional caution-yellow safety color — the established OSHA color language for caution and warning. Lime Green #257 is a gloss chartreuse-lime — the vivid yellow-green of hi-vis safety vests where maximum visual impact at distance is the priority. They serve different safety functions in different safety contexts.
