About TW 5000 single-pigment mixing colors

The TW 5000 mixing colors (codes 01 to 11) each contain one pigment, so you can build custom and matched colors by weight with predictable results. They dry to the same gloss finish as the rest of the 5000 line and share its mesh, drying and clean-up guidelines.

✓Weigh every component on a gram scale and record the formula so you can repeat the color on the next order.
✓Start your mix from the closest mixing colors; Fire Red (5014) is also a single-pigment color and can be used in formulas.
✓Lighten with 5021 Hi-Hide White for opaque tints, or extend with 5030 Clear Gloss Base for transparent tints.
✓For stronger color, WB-01 to WB-11 concentrates match these pigment names; add no more than 30% concentrate by weight to 5030 Clear Gloss Base or white.
✓Draw down or print a test swatch and let it dry fully before judging the match, since wet water-based ink looks different than dry ink.

How to use it

  1. 1Stir the ink thoroughly before use.
  2. 2Coat the screen with a solvent- and water-proof emulsion (dual-cure recommended) on 200 to 380 mesh, and let it dry fully before exposure.
  3. 3Use a sharp 70 to 85 durometer polyurethane squeegee.
  4. 4If needed, reduce with Z1820 thinner or water, no more than 5 to 10% by weight; use Z1822 or Z1823 retarder sparingly for fine detail or slow print cycles.
  5. 5For Coroplast or extra chemical resistance, add 2 to 3% WB Activator by weight and use within about 24 hours.

Before you buy

Protect from freezing and store below 100°F (38°C), away from open flames and excess heat.
Use only solvent- and water-proof stencils; standard water-soluble emulsions will break down.

Frequently asked questions

What is TW 5003 Yellow Shade Red?

TW 5003 Yellow Shade Red is a warm red that leans toward orange. In a formula it builds scarlets, orange-reds and warm brick tones. It is part of the TW 5000 Series Gloss Water-Based Poster Ink. Its closest PANTONE equivalent is PANTONE Orange 021 C. What PANTONE color is TW 5003 Yellow Shade Red?

TW 5003 Yellow Shade Red is the closest TW standard match to PANTONE Orange 021 C. PANTONE equivalents are close visual matches, not exact formulations, so print a test on your stock and compare it to a current PANTONE guide. Download the TW 5000 and 5500 PANTONE equivalent guide from the Documents tab.

Why use single-pigment colors instead of standard colors for matching?

Each mixing color has only one pigment, so formulas stay clean and repeatable. Mixing multi-pigment colors together tends to dull the result.

Can I print a mixing color straight from the can?

Yes. They are press-ready inks with the same drying and mesh guidelines as the rest of the line. Most shops use them as building blocks for custom colors.

Are there concentrates that match these colors?

Yes. WB-01 to WB-11 concentrates share these pigment names. Add up to 30% by weight to 5030 Clear Gloss Base or white.

What finish does the 5000 Series have?

A high-gloss finish. For a flat look, choose the 5500 Series or add 1 to 8% flattening powder.

How fast does it dry?

About 20 to 30 minutes in open air at room temperature, or seconds in a dryer at 150°F (66°C).

Will it print on Coroplast?

Yes, on treated Coroplast and fluted polyolefin, with the WB activator added for chemical resistance.

What mesh should I use?

200 to 380 monofilament polyester mesh.

Can I thin it with water?

Yes. Use water or Z1820 thinner, up to 5 to 10% by weight. Over-reducing slows drying and can cause blocking.

How long will prints last outdoors?

Up to five years on most substrates. Reflex Blue and Ultra Blue are rated up to two years.

Can I print four-color process?

Yes. The 5040 to 5043 halftone colors and 5044 Halftone Extender Base are built for halftone work.
