Presto Tape 7160-PT — Made in USA

Why Screen Printers Run 7160 Pallet Tape

Every layer of plastisol, water-based ink, and spray adhesive that hits an unprotected platen costs you time. Solvent cleanup, scraping with razor blades, slow-drying wash steps between runs — multiply that by dozens of pallets and the labor adds up fast. 7160 pallet tape eliminates the cleanup entirely. Lay it down, print over it, peel it off. The platen underneath stays factory-clean for years.

Manufactured by Presto Tape from saturated smooth 4-mil paper with a high-tack rubber adhesive, the 7160-PT is built specifically for screen-print platens — not a generic masking tape. It survives flash-dryer heat, holds tight through long production runs, and removes in a single residue-free pull.

What Makes 7160 Different

Saturated Smooth Paper

4-mil natural paper, saturated for tear resistance. Unlike crepe masking tape, it lays perfectly flat — no ridges to telegraph through the print.

Engineered Tack Level

High adhesion to steel per PSTC-101 — stays put through flash cycles and squeegee pressure, but releases clean when you’re done.

Flash-Cure Resistant

Handles repeated flash-dryer exposure without softening, melting, or transferring adhesive to the platen. Built for production environments.

Universal Platen Compatibility

Adheres firmly to aluminum, steel, and wood platens — manual presses, automatics, and DTG pallets alike.

No-Shred Removal

Saturated paper construction means the tape comes off in one piece — no fragments, no razor-blade work, no adhesive cleanup.

Eco-Friendly Construction

Paper-based — no PVC, no plasticizers. A cleaner consumable than vinyl-based platen wraps, and lighter for shipping.

Why 16″ Is the Right Width

Width matters. Pallet tape that’s too narrow leaves exposed strips of platen on either side, defeating the purpose. Tape that’s too wide overhangs the platen edge, lifts during printing, and curls under squeegee pressure. The 16″ width is dialed for standard adult production pallets, manual press setups, and shops running mixed youth/adult work — the 16″ width edge-to-edge covers most standard adult platens (typically 16″ × 21″) with no overhang.

Standard Pallet Match
Best fit for 14-inch and 16-inch platen widths — covers edge-to-edge.
Manual + Auto Compatible
Works on manual carousels, automatic presses, and DTG print pallets.
100-Yard Run Length
One roll covers many pallets — months of supply for most shops.

How Pallet Tape Beats Spray-and-Scrape

The traditional problem

Spray adhesive builds up on the platen over time. Color migration from previous jobs contaminates new prints. Solvent cleanup between color changes burns hours of labor every week. The platen itself wears down from repeated chemical exposure.

The 7160 workflow

Apply tape to a clean platen. Spray adhesive directly onto the tape (not the platen). Print your run. Peel off the tape at the end of the job — the platen underneath is untouched. Apply a fresh strip for the next run. No solvents, no scraping.

Where it pays back

Color changeovers go from 15 minutes of scrubbing to 30 seconds of peeling. Aluminum platens stay factory-flat for years instead of pitting from acetone exposure. Wood platens last 3-5× longer. Shop air stays cleaner.

Application Tips From Experienced Printers

Start with a clean platen
Wipe the platen with isopropyl alcohol before first application. Any residue from old adhesive will weaken the tape bond.
Press out air bubbles
Use a squeegee or hand pressure to smooth the tape — bubbles can telegraph through prints and trap heat under the flash.
Trim corners and edges
Round the corners with a razor blade so garment loading slides easily and the tape doesn’t catch on shirt hems.
Don’t overhang the edge
Tape should wrap to the platen edge, not beyond. Overhang lifts during printing and gets pulled by squeegee pressure.
Replace between major color changes
Especially when going from dark to light inks — peel and reapply to prevent color migration into the next run.
Use spray adhesive on top, not under
7160 protects the platen — spray your garment adhesive directly onto the tape surface. The platen below stays pristine.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Presto 7160 pallet tape made of?
7160-PT is a 4-mil saturated smooth paper tape with a high-tack rubber adhesive on one side. The “saturated” construction means the paper has been treated to resist tearing and shredding during peel-off — a critical difference from generic masking tape, which fragments under heat and squeegee pressure. The paper itself is natural (off-white) and lays perfectly flat against the platen.
Do I still need spray adhesive with pallet tape?
Yes — 7160 protects the platen, but it’s not sticky on the garment side. You still need spray adhesive (or a water-based liquid adhesive) on top of the tape to hold shirts in place. The benefit is that all the adhesive buildup lands on the tape, not the platen — so when you peel the tape, you’re peeling away the mess. If you want to eliminate spray adhesive entirely, look at PMI 380 Dual-Tack Paper or PMI PalletGel, which combine platen protection and garment hold in one product.
How long does one roll last?
One 100-yard roll covers roughly 14 standard 16″ × 21″ platens with a single strip per platen. For most shops running mixed jobs, that’s 1–3 months of supply per roll depending on how often you change inks. High-volume shops doing daily color changes go through a roll faster; single-product shops can run a single application for weeks.
Will 16″ tape fit on an 18″ pallet?
It will cover most of an 18″ platen, but you’ll have a roughly 1″ strip exposed on each side. For 18″ × 22″ or larger pallets, the 18″ × 100 yard roll is the correct fit for edge-to-edge coverage.
Will pallet tape survive flash-dryer heat?
Yes. 7160-PT is engineered for screen-print platen use and is rated as flash-cure resistant. The saturated paper and rubber adhesive system handle repeated cycles of flash heat (typically 300–350°F at the surface) without softening, melting, or transferring adhesive residue. Standard masking tape will burn or leave glue behind under the same conditions — 7160 will not.
Does it leave residue on the platen?
No. Clean residue-free removal is the core design promise of 7160. The adhesive is engineered to release from steel, aluminum, wood, and MDF platens without leaving glue behind — even after long production runs and repeated flash cycles. If you do see residue, it’s almost always old spray adhesive from underneath, not from the 7160 itself. A quick wipe with isopropyl alcohol clears it.
Can I use it on a DTG print pallet?
Yes. 7160 works on DTG print pallets the same way it works on screen-print platens — protecting the surface from pretreatment overspray and adhesive buildup. The smooth paper surface won’t telegraph through DTG prints, and removal is clean. Many shops running both DTG and screen printing standardize on the same pallet tape across both technologies.
Is this the same as Presto 7160-PT?
Yes — Printers Choice 7160 Pallet Tape is the genuine Presto Tape 7160-PT product, distributed under our house brand. Same manufacturer, same Bensalem, PA facility, same spec sheet. Presto Tape has been manufacturing application tapes since 1991 and is one of the most established names in screen-print platen protection.
Can I reuse a piece of pallet tape after peeling it?
No. 7160 is engineered for single-use per platen application. Once peeled, the adhesive is compromised by ink, lint, and shop debris, and it won’t reseal evenly to the platen. Given the per-strip cost (a 100-yard roll covers many pallets), fresh tape is the right call every time. For a reusable platen surface, look at PMI PalletGel, which is rated for up to 100,000 impressions.
How fast does it ship?
7160 pallet tape ships from our warehouse in San Antonio, TX. Orders placed before 3:30 PM CT ship the same business day via UPS or FedEx Ground. Free shipping on orders over $200 within the continental United States. San Antonio locals can pick up in-stock orders within an hour at 11915 Starcrest Dr.
Do you offer case-quantity pricing?
Yes. 7160 ships from Presto in 2-roll cases for 16″ width. Call (512) 454-0505 or email [email protected] for current case pricing — production shops generally save versus single-roll ordering. We also stock 24″ and 30″ widths by special order for shops running oversize pallets.
