Description

Degreaser LF iSC — Low-Foaming Concentrated Mesh Degreaser for Screen Printing

Chromaline’s Degreaser LF iSC is a concentrated wetting agent and mesh degreaser engineered specifically for shops where foam is a problem — primarily automatic screen reclaim systems, where excessive suds slow down rinse cycles. Per Chromaline, the product can be diluted up to 40:1 with water, making it one of the most cost-efficient mesh-prep products in the iSC line. 100% biodegradable, with a light-brown color that serves as a visual rinse indicator.

Removes oils and residual contaminants from new and used mesh · reduces pinholes in direct emulsion coatings · eliminates fisheyes and streaks in coatings · promotes adhesion for both emulsion and capillary film stencils · optimizes resolution, definition, and stencil life · part of the Chromaline iSC Integrated Screen Chemistry system.

Low-Foaming Formulation

Chromaline’s product specification: “Low foaming; ideal for use in automatic machines.” The LF formulation won’t cause the excessive foaming that creates rinse problems in automatic screen reclaim cabinets. Same surfactant action, none of the suds.

Dilutable up to 40:1

Per Chromaline’s official product page, Degreaser LF iSC “can be diluted up to 40:1 with water.” Chromaline’s starter instructions call for 10 parts water to 1 part product; many production shops dilute considerably further. A quart makes up to 10+ gallons of working solution; a gallon makes 41 gallons; a 5-gallon pail makes 205 gallons.

100% Biodegradable

Per Chromaline’s iSC product specification, Degreaser LF iSC is rated 100% biodegradable. Always confirm discharge requirements with your local municipality before disposing of any working solution.

Reduces Pinholes in Coatings

Chromaline product spec: “reduces pinholes in direct emulsion coatings.” Residual mesh contamination is a leading cause of pinhole defects — Degreaser LF iSC removes those contaminants before the emulsion coat goes on.

Light-Brown Rinse Indicator

Chromaline product spec: “Light brown color ensures complete rinse from mesh.” When the rinse water runs clear, the degreaser is off — no guessing whether the screen is ready for coating.

Promotes Stencil Adhesion

Chromaline product spec: “Eliminates fisheyes and streaks in coatings; promotes adhesion for both emulsion and capillary film stencils; optimizes resolution, definition and stencil life.”

Why Degreasing Matters

1
Every screen must be degreased before coating. Per Chromaline’s technical guidance: “ALL screens must be degreased prior to applying emulsion or capillary film. Always. No exceptions.” This applies whether the mesh is brand-new or freshly reclaimed.
2
Without degreasing, emulsion separates. Per Chromaline: “If there is grease, oil or dirt left on the screen, they can cause the emulsion to separate and may cause premature screen breakdown.”
3
Foam in automatic equipment is a problem. Standard foaming degreasers can cause excessive sudsing in automatic screen reclaim systems. The LF (Low Foaming) formulation is engineered to avoid that issue while still delivering the cleaning action.
4
The 4-step process is the same regardless of degreaser. Per Chromaline: (1) Wet the screen, (2) apply the degreaser, (3) scrub both sides with a brush, (4) rinse and dry.

How to Degrease with Degreaser LF iSC

Chromaline’s official screen-degreasing walkthrough — the same 4-step process applies whether you use LF, Chroma/Wet, or Degreaser 260.

Application Instructions (from Chromaline)

Mix: One part Degreaser LF iSC with up to 40 parts water (Chromaline’s starter directions specify 10 parts water; dilution up to 40:1 is supported per Chromaline’s product page).

Apply: For new multifilament synthetic mesh, stainless-steel mesh, or previously abraded synthetic monofilament mesh, apply Degreaser LF iSC liberally to both sides of wet or dry screen with a brush or sponge.

Rinse: Rinse the screen with a strong water spray to remove all traces of Degreaser LF iSC. The light-brown color signals when the rinse is complete — when the runoff goes clear, the screen is rinsed.

Dry: Dry the clean freshly prepared screens and use immediately or store in a dust-free environment.

🪥 Brush Selection
Per Chromaline: use an all-plastic dedicated degreasing brush. Brushes with metal parts will eventually rust. Never use woven scrub pads — fibers shed and become trapped in the mesh.
✋ Don’t Touch the Mesh
Per Chromaline: after degreasing, do not touch the mesh with your hands as this will transfer skin oil onto the screen. Handle by the frame only until coated.
💨 Clean, Dry Storage
Per Chromaline: dry the clean freshly prepared screens and use immediately or store in a dust-free environment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What does “LF” stand for?

LF stands for Low Foaming. Per Chromaline, the LF formulation is “ideal for automatic screen reclaim systems — won’t cause excessive foaming.” Same wetting and degreasing action as standard degreasers, with less foam.

What’s the dilution ratio?

Per Chromaline’s product page, Degreaser LF iSC can be diluted up to 40:1 with water. Chromaline’s starter directions specify 1 part product to 10 parts water. Most production shops dilute considerably further — at 40:1, a gallon makes 41 gallons of working solution and a 5-gallon pail makes 205 gallons.

When should I use LF instead of Chroma/Wet iSC or Degreaser 260 iSC?

Per Chromaline: use Degreaser LF iSC when foam is a problem — automatic reclaim systems are the main use case. Use Chroma/Wet iSC for manual prep (Chromaline calls it their “most popular degreaser”). Use Degreaser 260 iSC when you need a single product that handles degreasing, ink degrading, and dehazing in one bottle.

Do I really need to degrease every screen?

Yes — Chromaline’s guidance is explicit: “ALL screens must be degreased prior to applying emulsion or capillary film. Always. No exceptions.” Without degreasing, residual grease, oil, or dirt can cause emulsion separation and premature stencil breakdown.

What brush should I use?

Per Chromaline: use an all-plastic dedicated degreasing brush. Brushes with metal parts eventually rust and contaminate the mesh. Never use woven scrub pads — fibers shed and become trapped in the mesh, causing weak spots, pinholes, and detail problems. Keep a dedicated degreasing brush separate from other reclaim chemistry.

Why is the working solution brown?

Per Chromaline’s product spec, the light-brown color “ensures complete rinse from mesh.” It’s a visual indicator — when the rinse runoff goes clear, the degreaser is fully removed.

Can I touch the mesh after degreasing?

Per Chromaline: no — “after you degrease your screen, do NOT touch the mesh with your hands as this will transfer skin oil onto your screen.” Handle screens by the frame only until coated. Keep the screen in a clean, dry environment after degreasing until ready to coat.

Is Degreaser LF iSC safe for stainless-steel mesh?

Yes. Per Chromaline’s official application directions, Degreaser LF iSC is intended for new multifilament synthetic mesh, stainless-steel mesh, and previously abraded synthetic monofilament mesh.

Is it biodegradable?

Per Chromaline’s iSC product specification, Degreaser LF iSC is rated 100% biodegradable. Always confirm specific discharge requirements with your local municipality before disposing of working solution.

Will this remove ghost images or ink stains?

No — Degreaser LF iSC is a mesh-prep degreaser only. It does not dehaze or remove ghost images. For ghost-image removal, use Chromaline Ghost/Buster iSC or SafD-Haze iSC. For combined degreasing + ink degrading + dehazing in one product, Chromaline recommends Degreaser 260 iSC.

How long does Degreaser LF iSC last in storage?

Per Chromaline: sealed in the original container and stored in cool conditions, Chromaline iSC chemistry maintains its original properties for 2 years from the production date.
