Murakami Emulsion Permanent Hardener A&B Quart Kit – Two-Part Stencil Hardener for Extreme Durability
Murakami
Murakami Emulsion Permanent Hardener A&B Quart Kit is a two-part sequential hardening system that delivers maximum stencil durability for the most demanding screen printing environments. Part A is applied first, then Part B — each to both sides of the exposed, dried screen using a scoop coater. The two-part system chemically reinforces emulsions to resist water-based inks, discharge inks, high humidity, and extreme production conditions. This is a permanent hardener — reclaiming is significantly more difficult after use. Includes one quart of Part A and one quart of Part B.

Description
Maximum Stencil Durability. Two-Part Permanent System.
The Murakami A&B Permanent Hardener Kit is for shops that need the absolute most out of their stencils — long runs, aggressive discharge environments, high-humidity screen rooms. Sequential two-part system: Part A is reclaimable on its own — Part B is what permanently locks the emulsion for maximum durability. Once Part B is applied, reclaiming becomes significantly harder.
Key Features
🏆
Part A Then Part B — Permanent Lock
Part A is reclaimable on its own and strengthens the emulsion. Part B, applied second, is what permanently locks the emulsion for extreme durability. Together they deliver the highest level of stencil hardening available.
💧
Extreme Water & Solvent Resistance
Hardened stencils withstand repeated wash cycles, prolonged water-based and discharge ink contact, high humidity environments, and high squeegee pressure without premature breakdown.
📦
Complete Kit — A + B Included
The quart kit includes everything needed: one quart of Part A and one quart of Part B. No additional purchases required to complete the hardening process.
⚠️
Permanent — Reclaiming More Difficult
This is a permanent hardener. The chemical reinforcement that makes stencils so durable also makes them significantly harder to break down during reclaiming. Use proper reclaim chemistry and reclaim promptly.
How to Apply — Two-Step Process
Complete exposure, washout, and blockout. The screen must be fully dry before hardener application.
Using a clean lint-free cloth, soft brush, or sponge, apply a thin, even layer of hardener to both sides of the screen. Allow to air dry or use a 100°F hot box for the dwell time specified in the manufacturer’s instructions. Note: Part A alone is reclaimable — it is Part B that permanently locks the emulsion.
After Part A dwell time has elapsed, apply Part B evenly to both sides of the screen in the same manner. Allow to air dry or use a hot box per the manufacturer’s specified dwell time.
The permanently hardened stencil is ready for press. Expect maximum resistance to moisture, abrasion, and ink attack.
Use appropriate reclaim chemistry. Reclaim promptly after the print job ends — the longer a permanent hardener sits, the more difficult reclaiming becomes.
⚠️ Permanent Hardener — Reclaiming Is Significantly More Difficult
The A&B system permanently chemically reinforces the emulsion. While reclaiming is still possible, it requires proper reclaim chemistry, adequate dwell time, and more effort than unhardened or reclaimably-hardened stencils. If you need tough stencils that are still routinely reclaimable, consider the Murakami MS Reclaimable Hardener instead.

Murakami MS Reclaimable Hardener
One-part reclaimable hardener for significantly tougher stencils without permanent hardening. A good choice when you need durability but still reclaim screens routinely.

Murakami Hardener Comparison
Murakami makes three hardener products that are often confused. Here’s how they differ and when to use each one.
| Product | Type | How to Use | Reclaiming | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MS Hardener | Reclaimable One-part | Apply alone with scoop coater to both sides. Cure in sunlight or 100°F hot box. | More difficult than untreated — but still reclaimable with proper chemistry | Tougher stencils for long runs while still reclaiming screens regularly |
| Part A (included in A&B Kit) | Reclaimable Two-part, Step 1 | Apply first with scoop coater to both sides. Air dry or hot box. Part B follows. | Reclaimable on its own — becomes permanent once Part B is applied | Step 1 of the permanent hardening process — must be followed by Part B to achieve maximum durability |
| Part B (sold separately) | Permanent Lock Two-part, Step 2 | Apply after Part A has dried. Scoop coater to both sides. This step permanently locks the emulsion. | Permanently locked — significantly harder to reclaim | When maximum durability is needed and reclaiming difficulty is acceptable. Sold separately for restock. |

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is included in the A&B Quart Kit?
The kit includes one quart of Part A and one quart of Part B — the complete two-part system needed to perform the full hardening process.
How do Part A and Part B work together?
Part A is applied first to both sides of the exposed, dried screen using a scoop coater. After the specified dwell time, Part B is applied on top of Part A in the same manner. The two-part sequential application chemically reinforces the emulsion for permanent, extreme-durability hardening.
Is this a permanent hardener?
Yes. The A&B system creates a permanent chemical bond with the emulsion that makes reclaiming significantly more difficult compared to untreated or reclaimably-hardened stencils. Proper reclaim chemistry and procedures are required, and prompt reclaiming after printing is strongly recommended.
When should I choose A&B over the MS Reclaimable Hardener?
Choose A&B when maximum stencil durability is the priority and the difficulty of reclaiming is acceptable — for example, very long runs, aggressive discharge ink environments, or high-humidity production rooms where standard hardeners aren’t sufficient. Choose MS Hardener when you want significantly better stencil life but still need to reclaim screens routinely.
What emulsion types is A&B compatible with?
Compatible with most photo, dual-cure, and diazo emulsions. Apply after exposure and full drying.
