Description
Interchange MD-8 Gas Conveyor Dryer
Compact Power for High-Performance Ink Curing — American-Made Industrial Gas Dryer
Same Interchange MD-8. Better Buying Experience.
A gas conveyor dryer isn’t a cart-and-checkout decision — it’s a production investment. You deserve an equipment partner who’ll help you spec it right, coordinate the install, and stand behind the purchase for the next decade.
Direct Factory Pricing — No Middleman Markup
We’re an authorized Interchange dealer buying direct from the Passaic, NJ factory. We can quote the MD-8 at or below competitor pricing, bundle accessories (donut probes, air bars, exhaust hoods), and consolidate freight for better rates.
Real Equipment Support from Shop-Floor Experience
We’ve been speccing, selling, and installing industrial conveyor dryers since 2008. When you call us, you talk to someone who knows the MD-8 inside and out — not a call-center rep reading from a PDF.
Full Interchange Factory Warranty Preserved
Your Interchange factory warranty stays fully intact. But your first call goes to us in San Antonio — not an 800 number on the other side of the country. We’ll troubleshoot, source parts, and coordinate service faster than going direct.
Built-to-Order in Passaic, NJ — Short Lead Times
Because Interchange manufactures in New Jersey (not overseas), lead times are typically 4–8 weeks from order to delivery — significantly faster than any ROQ-class European-built dryer. Ask us about current in-stock inventory.
See the MD-8 in Action
A walkthrough of the Interchange MD-8 Series dryer — its compact footprint, patented Air Deflector Recirculation System, 250,000 BTU stainless steel burner, and the industrial-grade construction that makes it a workhorse in growing print shops across the country.
What Makes the MD-8 Different
🔥 250,000 BTU Stainless Steel Burner
Produces rapid, consistent heat that gets the MD-8 up to cure temp fast — and keeps it there job after job. The stainless steel construction stands up to continuous industrial duty cycles without the corrosion and burn-through issues that plague cheaper carbon-steel burners. Runs on natural gas or LP propane — specify at order.
🌀 Patented Air Deflector Recirculation System
The MD-8’s signature differentiator. Interchange’s patented air deflector system recycles heated air through the chamber, dramatically reducing the wasted BTUs that would otherwise exhaust straight out the stack. The result: even, balanced curing with every shirt on the belt getting the same dose of heat — and substantially lower gas bills than dryers that just vent hot air and reheat fresh makeup air every cycle.
💨 3 HP Blower · 4,500 CFM Air Circulation
A genuinely industrial-grade 3-horsepower blower moves 4,500 CFM through the chamber — the same kind of airflow you’d find on much larger (and more expensive) dryers. That’s what makes the MD-8 capable of curing water-based and discharge inks properly, not just plastisol. Water-based needs moving air to drive the moisture out; the MD-8 delivers it.
🎯 Interchange Air Nozzle Heat Distribution
A feature Interchange explicitly calls out as “found only on dryers which cost much more.” The air nozzle array delivers heated air to the fabric surface at controlled velocity and even distribution — preventing the hot-spot / cold-spot issues that plague lower-end gas dryers and lead to under-cured edges or over-cured center runs.
📏 Compact 16-ft Footprint · Fits Real Shops
At 16 feet overall (4 ft infeed + 8 ft heat chamber + 4 ft outfeed), the MD-8 fits in shops where a 30+ ft industrial dryer just won’t work. Many print shops can’t practically accommodate a ROQ Tunnel or SAHARA’s full length — the MD-8 gives them 80% of the performance in half the floor space.
🎛️ Digital Temperature & Belt Speed Control
Digital controller for precise temperature setting (up to 350°F standard, 450°F with Hi-Temp option). Separate digital belt speed control from 1 ft/min to 25 ft/min — dial in your dwell time per ink type and save the setting as your shop-standard. No more guesswork knobs or analog dials.
🧹 Slide-Out E-Z Clean Filter Drawer & Side Cleanout
Two thoughtful service features that keep the dryer performing: a slide-out filter drawer for quick air-filter cleaning (critical to maintain airflow and efficiency), and a side-access cleanout door for inspecting and cleaning the chamber without disassembly. Routine maintenance takes minutes, not hours.
🛡️ ETL · CE · UL Code 795 Approved
Produced under UL Code 795 (Fourth Addition — Commercial Industrial Gas Heating Equipment) and carries both ETL compliance (reference J98*10442) and CE approval. That means insurance-approved, inspection-ready, and compliant with commercial gas appliance codes in the US and internationally.
Configure Your MD-8
The MD-8 is built-to-order at the Interchange factory in Passaic, NJ. Three choices determine your exact build:
Belt Width
- 36″ (MD3608) — entry level, manual shops

Factory-Verified Specifications At-a-Glance
All specs below are from the Interchange MD-8 factory operating manual. Use these to confirm your shop’s utility hookups, floor space, and production fit before ordering.
What’s Included
Installation & Utility Requirements
Before ordering, confirm your shop has the necessary hookups. Here’s what the MD-8 needs to be up and running:
🔥 Gas Supply
3/4″ NPT gas line delivering 6–11″ water column pressure. Natural gas preferred for operating cost; LP propane works for shops without NG. Must be installed by a certified gas plumber per local code.
⚡ Electrical Service
208/230V, 3-phase service at 15.5 FLA (standard configuration) or 17.5 FLA (with IR option). 3-phase is non-negotiable — single-phase shops will need a phase converter or service upgrade.
💨 Exhaust Ventilation
6″ exhaust duct (customer-supplied) with 350–500 CFM capacity. If the duct run exceeds 30 ft or has more than two 90° bends, a booster blower may be required. Exhaust temp ~200°F after 15 ft of run.
📐 Floor Space & Clearance
16 ft overall length × approx. 4–6 ft wide (varies with belt width). Must be positioned 12″ minimum from any wall. No special flooring required. Ceiling clearance of at least 9 ft recommended.
🔧 Compressed Air (Optional)
Only required if you order the Belt Sensor auto-tracking system option: 70–80 psi compressed air. Not needed for the standard manual-tracking belt.
🛠️ Installation Team
Requires certified gas plumber for gas hookup, licensed electrician for 3-phase connection, and typically a forklift for positioning. Most installs take 1–2 days including commissioning and first-job calibration.
Not sure if your shop is MD-8-ready?
Send us photos or a floorplan sketch along with your electric panel label, gas meter photo, and existing exhaust setup. We’ll review it before you commit to an order and flag any pre-install work (service upgrades, gas line sizing, ductwork routing) that might impact your budget or timeline.

Concerns We Hear — Answered Straight
Evaluating a gas dryer is a serious decision. These are the real concerns growing shops bring us when considering the MD-8 — and the straight answers we give.
“Is this just a cheaper knockoff of a real industrial dryer?”
No — Interchange is a legitimate 20+ year manufacturer of commercial gas dryers, and the MD-8 shares the same patented Air Deflector Recirculation System as their flagship AirJet dryer. What you’re giving up vs. the AirJet: half the BTU rating (250k vs. 500k), optic-sensor auto belt tracking, and the graphics-specific modular expandability. What you’re keeping: the core airflow tech that makes Interchange dryers cure consistently. It’s not a knockoff — it’s the budget-tier of a real industrial product line.
“How does this compare to a ROQ Tunnel or SAHARA?”
Different class of equipment. The ROQ Tunnel/SAHARA are European-built, heavily-engineered industrial platforms starting well above the MD-8’s price point. They offer more customization (dual-zone chambers, GP modules, split-belts with variable widths, heat-exchanger options, Standby Mode software on the SAHARA). The MD-8 is simpler, American-made, faster to deliver (4–8 weeks vs. 8–12), and about half the investment. Right choice depends on your volume and budget — call us and we’ll help you pick honestly.
“Can it really cure water-based and discharge?”
Yes, and this is actually where the MD-8’s 3 HP blower and 4,500 CFM airflow earn their keep. Water-based and discharge inks need moving heated air to drive moisture out — IR-only dryers struggle here. The MD-8’s forced-air chamber circulates heat the way WB/discharge curing actually requires. Not the same as a ROQ SAHARA with dedicated WB optimization, but absolutely capable of production-quality WB curing.
“What about yellowing on white fabrics?”
Gas combustion byproducts can cause yellowing on white and light fabrics if exhaust isn’t properly managed. The MD-8 does not have a heat-exchanger option like the ROQ Tunnel/SAHARA’s GP feature — this is a direct-fired gas dryer. In practice most shops run whites without issues if their exhaust is correctly installed and sized. If you print high volumes of white-on-white, pimas, or light pastels, let us know — it may be worth considering the ROQ with GP option or stepping up to the Interchange AirJet.
“What’s the maintenance burden?”
Low. The slide-out filter drawer and side cleanout door were specifically designed for fast service. Weekly routine: blow out the filter. Monthly: grease the blower fan drive shaft bearings with high-temp grease (200 operating hours or monthly, whichever comes first). Annually: have a certified gas tech verify burner tuning and safety systems. Belt replacement is a 30-minute job using the alligator splice system. No complex electronics, no proprietary service software, parts available nationwide.
“What happens if something breaks?”
Interchange stocks parts in Passaic, NJ and ships via standard US freight — no ocean-freight wait like European-built equipment. We stock some common parts here in San Antonio. For anything beyond routine, Interchange’s US-based tech support team is responsive — we’ve had good experience with them over the years. If it’s a warranty issue, we coordinate the claim for you.
“Do I need a donut probe?”
Strongly recommended. The MD-8 has digital temperature control of the chamber air, but the only way to verify actual ink surface temperature on your specific fabric is with an Atkins donut probe (Cooper-Atkins 50008-K). We stock these — ask us to include one with your MD-8 order.
Finance the MD-8 — Monthly Payments, Immediate Production Gains
Equipment financing is available on the MD-8 through our financing partner. Section 179 tax advantages may apply for qualifying businesses — own the equipment outright with payments structured to fit your shop’s cash flow. Many shops upgrading from IR dryers find the MD-8’s gas operating cost savings substantially offset the monthly payment from day one.
